The ghost town

San Severino di Centola

One hundred steps, ideally, to heaven and to a past that never resigns to vanish in the limbo of memories and enter the exclusive club of the "ghost villages". San Severino di Centola withstands stubbornly the wear of the natural elements while awaiting, proudly, its guests. Step by step, following the stone path that toils up to the sky, the village reveals itself, letting everybody draw fully from emotions, feelings and, why not, imagination.

The ancient village is today a group of abandoned houses, but was once the place of residence for ploughman and knights, and it played an important role in the communication net, based on burning torches placed on towers, which was so useful to spread the alarm in case of any attack coming from the land or the ocean. Today, the lymph that keeps the ghost village alive comes from the local associations that organize celebrations, art exhibitions and commemorations.
